One of Arno Peters’s reasons for developing and promoting the Gall-Peters projection.
A fictional group called “Organization of Cartographers for Social Equality” also promoted this projection on an episode of The West Wing, but I feel like I’ve seen a map with this projection with an actual organization’s name on it when I worked at the Geology Library at UCLA. Hopefully I can try to find it someday when I go back to UCLA.
